Weekly Parental Letter

1st December 2017

Dear Parent/Carer

Parts of the country have recently had their first covering of snow and as the weather is forecast to remain very cold, I would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the Academy’s adverse weather guidelines:

Should the Academy need to close this decision will only be made in exceptional circumstances and a message will be broadcast on BBC Radio Sheffield. Please listen to this station. The Local Authority have an alert system in place. If you wish to sign up to this service, please go to https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/register-for-alerts.html

Once you have registered your details, during adverse weather please go to www.sheffield.gov.uk and visit the schools and childcare page for the latest information. A message will also be placed on our website and a text will be sent. If you have recently changed your mobile number and have not informed school, please email chockenhull@yewlandsacademy.org with your new contact details.

If there is no closure broadcast the Academy will remain open. Please do not telephone school unless you have extenuating circumstances.

If the Academy decides to close early due to weather conditions, please make contingency arrangements with your child. We will always endeavour to keep the school open.

Please note that during exceptional weather we will always try to be flexible with regards to school footwear. Students who do not come to school in the correct footwear are to bring their shoes in their bags to change.

Yours faithfully

Simon Winslow
