DNA Performances, Internet Safety and Sports Day

Dear Parent/Carer

DNA PERFORMANCES

Tickets are selling well for the DNA performances next week. If you would like to attend and haven’t purchased a ticket yet, seats are available for Thursday night and limited availability on Wednesday and Friday. All performances start at 6.30 pm in the hall and tickets are available from the Drama Studio or they can be reserved via reception at a cost of £5.00 for adults, £3.00 for concessions and students and £2.00 for Drama GCSE students. Please note there will be no ticket sales on the door, only advanced.

INTERNET SAFETY – YEAR 9 STUDENTS

Yesterday, South Yorkshire Police ran a seminar for our Year 9 students on internet safety. They covered topics on sexting, cyber-bullying, profile pictures and how social media profiles can affect a person’s future. The presentation included some footage and messages to convey the importance of safety whilst using the internet.

HOW TO KEEP COOL AND PREPARED IN THE WARM WEATHER

During this spell of very warm weather, please ensure that your child comes to school with a water bottle every day. There are a number of water fountains around school that students can use to refill their bottles at social times and before and after school to keep themselves hydrated.

SPORTS DAY

On Tuesday 17 July, the Academy will hold its annual sports day. The weather is forecast to remain warm and sunny, so it is important that students also come to school with some sunscreen and a hat on this day to prevent them getting burnt whilst they are participating. Refreshments are available to purchase on the day. Please remind your child to place money on their accounts in advance.

Please also note that students taking part can come to school in their PE kit – blue PE top and black shorts, as per the Academy’s uniform policy.

TRANSITION WEEK

Next week, staff and students will welcome Year 6 pupils to the Academy to allow them to experience a week at secondary school prior to starting in September. Throughout the week they will attend lessons, including science and technology practicals, core subjects and PE activities. They will also have the opportunity of seeing an adapted version of DNA by Dennis Kelly and become familiar with the Academy’s 5 star awards system and what they can do to become a 5 star learner and attender.

Parents of Year 6 students are invited to attend a parental meeting on Monday 9 July at 5.30 pm in the hall to provide an opportunity to meet your child’s form tutor. If in the meantime you should have any questions, please do not hesitate in contacting Miss Wragg, Head of Year 7.

ROUNDERS TEAM – FINAL MATCH OF THE SEASON

Congratulations to the girls’ rounders team who beat Hinde House 13 – 7.5. They played the game with the upmost respect for their opponents. Well done to the team!

Yours faithfully
