Welcome Back, New Staff, Health and Safety Reminder, High Expectations and Professional Standards

Dear Parent/Carer

WELCOME BACK TO THE NEW TERM

I hope you have all had an enjoyable Christmas break and are now ready to settle back into the new academic year. Students have returned to school with a renewed energy and readiness for learning to ensure they do their very best. We have a busy Spring Term ahead of us including next week’s Year 11 mock exams and the Year 7 Parents’ Evening on Thursday 14 February from 3.15 pm – 6.15 pm. As always, for the latest information please go to our website – www.yewlandsacademy.org

NEW STAFF

I am sure you will join me in welcoming two new members of staff to the English Department – Salma Rahman and Warda Yassin. Although the term has only just started they have settled in well to their new posts, supported by existing staff in the English Department.

HEALTH AND SAFETY - REMINDER

With the safety of our students in mind, please ensure that your child enters and leaves school via the student entrance and not main reception via the Academy’s car park. The school gates are closed between 8.45 am and 3.15 pm. Parents are requested to only use the car park if they have an appointment or have made prior arrangements with school to drop off or collect their child at main reception.

HIGH EXPECTATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS

All our students are very much aware of our expectations regarding student dress. Please continue to support our high standards by ensuring that your child is in full school uniform, including appropriate footwear. In addition, the length of some students’ nails has recently become excessive. I am aware that some students like to wear false nails, however if they are too long they can pose a health and safety risk in practical subjects and should be no longer than the depth of a £1 coin (see image below) to eradicate any potential injuries to themselves or others.

Yours faithfully

Andrew Kelly

Principal
