Key Stage 3 Celebrations, Year 9 Options and Sporting Achievements

KEY STAGE 3 CELEBRATIONS

On Tuesday 26 June 2018 the Academy acknowledged the hard work of students in Years 7, 8 and 9 by holding celebratory events in both the afternoon and evening. Outstanding individuals across all three year groups were awarded with a certificate in recognition of their work.

Staff look forward to seeing these students achieve their full potential over the coming years. Photos of the events can be viewed via our website at www.yewlandsacademy.org

YEAR 9 OPTIONS

By the end of this week, Year 9 students will receive a copy of their confirmed options in readiness for the next academic year. Please speak to Miss Duff, Head of Year 9 if you need any further information.

CHARITY FUNDRAISING – NON-UNIFORM DAY – FRIDAY 20 JULY 2018
Kierra, in Year 9, is a member of Sheffield’s Synchronised Skating Academy (SSSA) and competes across the UK and Europe. Along with nine other local sports clubs, the SSSA is taking part in Hallam FM’s Sports Club Challenge to raise money for Cash for Kids. To support this charity, Friday 20 July 2018 will be a non-uniform day for students in exchange for a £1.00 donation. Please note that crop tops will not be allowed.

SPORTING ACHIEVEMENTS

CYCLE SPEEDWAY

Congratulations to Kielan in Year 8 who is the 2018 under 16s northern individual champion and also the British youth and junior under 14s northern champion. In August he will be attending the British individuals under 14s competition. On behalf of the Academy, I wish him the best of luck.

CHEERLEADING COMPETITION

Congratulations to the Yewlands’ Cheerleading Squad who competed in a cheerleading competition at Manchester Velodrome last Sunday. The squad did very well and had lots of fun performing their routine. Please view the Academy’s website for photos of the event.

ROUNDERS FIXTURE

Earlier in the week the Academy hosted a triangular rounders fixture against Firth Park and Meadowhead. The team performed well and conducted themselves in a sportsmanship manner in front of the other teams by shaking the hands of the opposition after every game. The team lost their first game against Firth Park by only half a rounder with an end score of 6-6.5. The second game against Meadowhead resulted in a 4.5-3 to Yewlands. Well done to all the girls who took part.

Yours faithfully
