Year 7 Parental Letter

Year 7 Parental Letter

Dear Year 7 Parent/Carer

Start of the New Term

I am delighted to inform you that our new Year 7s are displaying a very positive start to their 5-year journey at Yewlands. Students are adopting our 5 Star learning behaviours - working hard and being nice. It has been a pleasure for me to walk the Academy and see them engaged in their lessons and looking smart in their new uniforms (please remember to write your child’s name in their blazer).

Extra-Curricular Activities

At Yewlands we offer a range of extra-curricular activities for students and we actively encourage our new Year 7s to get involved in an after school club to build friendships and try new things. Please see the extra-curricular activity timetable for information.

Attendance and Punctuality

Attendance is important to your child’s education and I appreciate the integral role that parents and carers play in supporting the promotion of high standards. Full attendance and punctual arrival at school maximises your child’s time with their teachers and ensures their academic progress. Students who maintain good attendance at Yewlands are acknowledged through our 5 Star attendance strategy. I do, however, realise that there are sometimes circumstances where it is impossible for your child to attend and if that is the case, please contact our Attendance Officer on extension 1122 on each day of their absence. Please note, holidays in term time will not be authorised.

Student Council/Form Representatives

The Academy has an active Student Council and form representation. Form Representatives are currently being elected and their role is to speak in form time on a half termly basis to gain the opinions of their peers. Following these elections two representatives are selected to sit on the Student Council. The Council meets on a regular basis to discuss matters of concern and members play an important part in acting as role models for other students.

Settling-In Evening

On Thursday, 11 October 2018 between 3.30 pm – 6.30 pm there will be a Year 7 Settling-in Evening. Please try your best to attend this event as it will provide you with the opportunity to meet your child’s form tutor on a 1:1 basis. Miss Wragg, Head of Year 7 will be sending a further letter to provide more detail on the arrangements for this event.

Finally, I wish to thank you for your support of the Academy. This is just the start of our relationship with you and we look forward to the years ahead. If at any time you have any concerns or queries, please do not hesitate to make contact with either myself or Miss Wragg.
Yours faithfully

Andrew Kelly
Acting Principal
