Friday 22 November 2024 North Star STEM Event with Professor Brian Cox Our visit to the North Star STEM event was an unforgettable experience filled with inspiration, hands-on learning, and unforgettable moments. From the very beginning, the day was packed with activities that highlighted the wonders of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Monday 7 October 2024 Hesley Woods Residential This week, over 150 Year 7 students visited Hesley Woods as part of our Year 7 Residential. Students embraced the residential, showing incredible resilience given the torrential rain and bad weather. Our Year 7s completed activities with a positive attitude, taking part in team building tasks and developing self confidence. In the evening students enjoyed hot chocolate and games of cards.

Wednesday 10 July 2024 National Space Centre Trip To expand scientific knowledge and enhance curriculum studies, Year 7 and 8 students from Yewlands Academy visited the National Space Centre in Leicester. Students had a fantastic day experiencing hands-on science, exploring interactive displays, and watching an immersive film called ‘Astronaut’ in the UK's largest planetarium.

Tuesday 26 March 2024 Bronte Parsonage Museum Trip 50 Year 9 students visited the Bronte Parsonage Museum in Haworth. Students took part in a creative writing workshop and toured the museum, learning about the life and times of the Bronte family and the inspiration behind their literary works. As part of the tour, students stood in the room where, in 1847, Charlotte wrote Jane Eyre, Emily wrote Wuthering Heights and Anne wrote Agnes Grey. Students were also able to look out of the window over the wind-swept Yorkshire Moorland that was the setting for the Bronte sister’s classic novels.

Thursday 21 March 2024 Fossil Talk in the LRC From ammonites to concretion fossils, students had the chance to study several fossil examples, learn how fossils are formed and borrow fossil related books. Max in Y8 said ‘Mr Farley’s Lunchtime Fossil Talk in the LRC rocked!!

Wednesday 24 January 2024 Yorkshire Natural History Museum On Friday 12th January, 47 Year 9 pupils visited the Yorkshire Natural History Museum in Sheffield to apply their recent learning about evolution and the formation of fossils. The visit included a tour of the museum’s artifacts, a workshop with the lead palaeontologist and a chance to spend time in the preparation lab, learning about the scientific processes and equipment used to prepare artefacts for display and research.

Tuesday 16 January 2024 Mission Bookworm Book Review Competition Winners Congratulations to the 8 winners of the Mission Bookworm Book Review Competition. Last term over 80 book reviews were submitted by students in KS3 at Yewlands Academy, the selected winners each received a Meadowhall Voucher from Mr Clempson (Principal) to spend on a reward of their choice.

Thursday 14 December 2023 Fundamentals Santa Run Fantastic afternoon for the Y1 and Y2 pupils from our Family of Schools who came to Yewlands for our Fundamentals Santa Run! Over 50 youngsters enjoyed an afternoon of festive related games and activities which were designed by Yewlands Sports Leaders to develop their balance, accuracy and agility.

Thursday 30 November 2023 Introducing the Librarian Team! Congratulations to the newly formed student librarian team at Yewlands Academy. Over 25 students successfully completed the application process, including submitting a written application form and completing an induction process. To mark the completion of this process, Principal Mark Clempson and Literacy Lead Ms K Bull, awarded student Librarians with an librarian badge to wear on their blazer and a certificate marking their achievement.

Wednesday 15 November 2023 Supporting our Local Community This term, Yewlands Academy undertook two events to fundraise for Sheffield Children’s Hospital. The hugely popular Bake Sale saw students and staff across the school donate delicious homemade cakes, whilst the Fun Run saw 140 students gain sponsorship, where not even the rain could dampen anyone’s spirits. We are so proud of the charitable efforts of our students who raised £2500 during these two events.

Sunday 5 November 2023 Expanding Skill Sets Year 8 students worked in partnership with paramedics and first aid responders from the NHS as they participated in the national Restart a Heart initiative. The informative event taught students how to administer CPR, with visitors commenting on the good behaviour, attitude and maturity of our students throughout the sessions. The successful event has empowered our students, who feel confident equipped with first-aid knowledge.

Monday 30 October 2023 Future Pathways At the beginning of the academic year, students from Year 8 – 11 attended a Careers Fair hosted by the academy, allowing them the opportunity to speak to different employers and further education providers. Students asked intuitive questions and learned a lot about potential future pathways, with all taking away valuable insights and plenty to think about.

Tuesday 10 October 2023 A Visit from Sheffield County Council Patrick Butterell (Assistant Director, Sheffield City Council) visited Yewlands Academy in September, to observe lessons and meet with students. His feedback of his visit did much to affirm the progress made by the academy. The Assistant director praised the dedication and enthusiasm of all an the positive impacts Yewlands is making on the community: “the commitment and passion displayed by the leaders, staff, and students within the Brigantia Trust, especially at Yewlands Academy, are truly commendable. Your hard work and dedication are shaping a bright future for our community, fostering growth, learning, and nurturing our future leaders. Thank you for opening your doors and allowing me to witness the positive impact you're making within our community. Keep up the great work!”

Friday 29 September 2023 PROUD at Yewlands Teachers at Yewlands nominated students across the academy for PROUD awards, celebrating excellent effort, work and progress, with all those nominated receiving house points and letters home, to recognise and celebrate their hard work. Well done to all those who received nominations, we hope that parents across our community were happy to receive letters celebrating their children's success and we look forward to the half term 2 nominations.

Wednesday 27 September 2023 Netball Triumph At the beginning of the school year, Yewlands Academy attended the Sheffield schools Year 9 netball league meet, playing against several different schools across Sheffield in friendly 8-minute matches.
