National Year of Reading 2026

The National Year of Reading is not just a moment, but part of a sustained drive to promote reading as a universal right and inspire life long reading.
As part of the National Year of Reading 2026, Yewlands Academy is running a range of reading related activities and challenges throughout the academic year for our students to take part in. Our first reading challenge is We Wonder: Our Blue Planet.

We Wonder: Our Blue Planet

To mark the return of Our Blue Planet and as part of our celebrations for National Year of Reading, we are enriching students’ learning with the fantastic STEM reading challenge.

Aim of the reading challenge

Students are tasked with designing a campaign poster to protect our precious water resources. Exploring a range of information and ideas, this challenge not only encourages reading for pleasure and reading diversely, it supports disciplinary literacy by increased engagement with non-fiction texts.

Entering the competition

The We Wonder: Our Blue Planet reading challenge closed on Friday 30 March 2025.

The prize for the winner will be a £10 Meadowhall Voucher.
