Sports Day Update
Final preparations are being made as we excitedly head towards our Yewlands Academy Sports Days for 2022.
This year each group in KS3 will have their own Sports Day. Timings are as follows:
Y7 Thursday 21st July 9am-12noon
Y8 Wednesday 20TH July 12:15-2:50pm
Y9 Wednesday 20th July 9am-11:45am
Please note that the timings of the school day are not affected by Sports Days.
Our primary aim of sports day is for pupils to have fun competing safely against other pupils in a range of Athletic and Sporting events.
All pupils in Y7, 8 and 9 will have the opportunity to sign up for one of our track and field events so please encourage your child to get involved and be a big part of their Tutor Group Team for the day! Pupils will be spending more than half a day out on the field and so need to be prepared by considering the following expectations. All pupils will be actively involved in their Sports Day
PE kit
On the day pupils should arrive to school in their Yewlands PE kit (blue t-shirt, black shorts or sports trousers and trainers). Where this is not possible pupils should wear a plain t-shirt. Some spare kit is available if pupils do not have the correct PE kit.
Weather
Pupils should look at the weather forecast for that day and prepare appropriately. This may mean sunscreen and a hat if the weather is sunny or warmer layers and raincoat. Plenty of water is essential and pupils will be able to refill water bottles on the field.
Valuables and jewellery
Whilst participating in events students will be moving to various areas of the field and not always sat in one place. We advise on this day that pupils do not wear jewellery or bring in expensive items such as mobile phones. Jewellery will not be permitted whilst taking part in events for health and safety reasons and the Academy cannot be responsible for loss or damage to any these items.
Please discuss the points above with your child to assist us in making this year’s sports day a safe and enjoyable one.
