Yewlands Academy

Our Staff

Mark Clempson - Principal

My career in teaching started in 2007 at Holgate Secondary School in Barnsley, where I spent four highly successful and enjoyable years improving my practice and forming positive links with a community that I was raised in. Following this, I was offered the chance to develop my career at Hinde House 2-16 Academy where I became subject leader for history in 2011. This gave me a fantastic opportunity to drive standards and outcomes for the young people of North East Sheffield. My career progressed further at Hinde House and I became Vice Principal for Behaviour and Attendance and then developed a whole school role as Associate Principal with a focus on the quality of education. I am very proud and excited to have been offered the position of Principal at Yewlands Academy from September 2022.

Rachel Burgan - Associate Principal for Inclusion/DSL – Hinde House and Yewlands Academies

I joined Yewlands Academy in January 2022 from Hinde House Academy where my previous role was Vice Principal for Inclusion – overseeing Special Educational Needs and Safeguarding across the 2 – 16 ages. I have supported the Personal Development Curriculum, the launch of Thrive and Adult Mental Health First Aid across both phases. I joined Hinde House in 2009 as  a teacher of English moving into the role of Head of Subject, AQA Examiner and then onto SLT, being lucky enough to travel the whole journey with Brigantia Trust. I firmly believe that all our students have the right to recognise their dreams and it is the role of our school and the community to nurture this. I have a son and a daughter who are my best friends and keep me on my toes when I am not in school.

Jenny Holmshaw - Operations Lead

I joined Brigantia Learning Trust in June 2019, having worked in education for almost 20 years.  My role as Operations Lead across Hinde House Secondary, Hinde House Primary and Yewlands Academies involves overseeing operational and day to day issues across the three sites to ensure that key processes are followed to ensure the smooth running of the Academies.  In the absence of the old ‘Business Manager’ role, my role is key in overseeing all support staff and being the link between the Academies and the Trust.  I also work very closely with the Trust HR team.
