Yewlands Academy

As Principal of Yewlands Academy I would like to welcome you to the 2022-23 academic year! My career in teaching started in 2007 at Holgate Secondary School in Barnsley, where I spent four highly successful and enjoyable years improving my practice and forming positive links with a community that I was raised in. Following this, I was offered the chance to develop my career at Hinde House 2-16 Academy where I became subject leader for history in 2011. This gave me a fantastic opportunity to drive standards and outcomes for the young people of North East Sheffield. My career progressed further at Hinde House and I became Vice Principal for Behaviour and Attendance and then developed a whole school role as Associate Principal with a focus on the quality of education. Finally, after spending part of the last academic year at Yewlands Academy, I am very proud and excited to have been offered the position as Principal.

Our aim is to ensure that your child achieves their potential and performs to the very best of their ability in all subjects. I pride myself on having the highest possible expectations of students and staff and believe that mutual respect and integrity are both vital to forming positive relationships and ultimately ensuring that all students have the life chances that they deserve. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities and create a highly positive learning culture where all students can learn and develop into good citizens. We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she:

  • Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day’s learning experience.
  • Wears correct uniform all the time as per the uniform policy.
  • Brings correct equipment to school so there is no delay to their learning.
  • Completes all homework assignments given by teachers.
  • Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills.
  • Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her school life.
  • Knows that you expect him/her to succeed in school and go on to sixth form or college.

Thank you and I look forward to forming productive partnerships with all parents/carers and serving this community.

Principal, Mark Clempson
