I would like to offer you a warm welcome to the 2024-25 academic year! I am privileged to serve the community, the students and families of Yewlands Academy. My mantra is very simple I want every child to be the best version of themselves, I believe if it is not good enough for one of my own children then it will most definitely not be good enough for yours.
As Executive Principal, I work over Hinde House 2-16 Academy and Yewlands Academy with senior leaders, staff and parents to ensure that our students have a robust, healthy curriculum that allows all to flourish, irrespective of starting points, needs and challenge.
I have been teaching for over 30 years and have been a senior leader for almost 20 years. I am a teacher of History, and I have been a Principal in Lincolnshire, Sheffield and the Midlands. I have also worked as a Regional Educational Director for a large Multi Academy Trust before making the decision to join Brigantia Learning Trust in 2018. I wanted to work for Brigantia as it is a small local Trust that knows its academies and communities and one that is determined to “create excellence for all through a culture of care”
At Yewlands we aim to ensure that your child achieves their potential and performs to the very best of their ability in all subjects. I pride myself on having the highest possible expectations of students and staff and believe that mutual respect and integrity are both vital in forming positive relationships and ultimately, ensuring that all students have the life chances that they deserve. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and I want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities and create a highly positive learning culture where all students can learn and develop into good citizens. We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she:
- Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day’s learning experience.
- Wears correct uniform all the time as per the uniform policy.
- Brings correct equipment to school so there is no delay to their learning.
- Completes all homework assignments given by teachers.
- Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills.
- Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her school life.
- Knows that you expect him/her to succeed in school and go on to sixth form or college.
The above are captured and reinforced in our Brigantia8 expectations:
