Principals Welcome

A warm welcome to Yewlands Academy. We are an 11-16 school with 900 students situated in the north west of Sheffield, that provides a creative, broad, experiential and ambitious curriculum offer for all learners.

We have high ambitions for, and expectations of, all our students and encourage them to ‘be the best version of themselves’ in everything that they do.

Here at Yewlands Academy we expect all students to be 5* Learners and demonstrate 5* Behaviours for Learning:

• Preparation – students arrive on time with their equipment and are ready to learn
• Engagement – students participate in their learning positively and try their best
• Resilience – students accept that learning is challenging, don’t give up and are prepared to bounce back from their mistakes

Our Academy is a caring, nurturing and focussed community with an atmosphere of calm and purposeful learning. This ensures that all our students feel safe, happy and secure, achieve excellent academic progress and can be the best that they can be. Your child will be taught by teachers who are highly qualified and have high expectations. This ensures that our students have the opportunity to achieve the levels of excellence that we want for them.

We recognise the different needs of students, value their unique contributions to our learning community and work hard with them to develop their talents and potential.

Our impressive modern Academy building creates an inclusive environment which inspires high quality teaching and learning. The Academy building is complemented by state-of-the-art technology and resources including our Design & Technology department and ICT facilities, as well as a modern dance studio, drama studio and sports hall. A wide range of extracurricular and ‘Yew Futures’ activities ensure that all students have sporting, artistic, musical and cultural opportunities that nurture, develop and stretch their interests.

Yewlands Academy is proud to be a member of the Brigantia Learning Trust. Brigantia is a Sheffield based, cross-phase multi-academy trust, currently consisting of six schools including Longley Park 6th Form College. Our examination results demonstrate that over the last two years we are the most improved secondary school in Sheffield, with our latest figures showing that 50% of students achieved top grades 7-9. We work closely with our Family of Schools and educational partners to ensure that transition from Year 6 to Yewlands Academy and then on to post-16 education is smooth.

Yewlands Academy is a wonderful school that serves a fantastic community. We enjoy the commitment and support of our parents and carers and thank them for ensuring their child is in school on time, in full school uniform and with good intentions every day. Your child’s education is of total importance to us and everything that we do is geared towards providing the very best for the students that we serve.

Please take a moment to look at our website and Twitter which provide you with all the latest information and news about life at Yewlands. If you require any further details about the Academy, please do not hesitate to contact us; we will be pleased to meet you and show you around.
