Parental Letter 161118

Parent Forum Volunteers, Enrichment Day 1, Edulink and Christmas Jumper Day

Dear Parent/Carer

The Academy is keen to work closely with you to help shape the future of the school as we acknowledge the important role you play in supporting your child and ensuring they achieve their very best. This is why we are in the process of establishing a Parent Forum to encourage representation from those who have children currently at the school.

The Forum will act as a platform for you to be part of a focused and constructive discussion group with the aim of strengthening the voice of parents/carers. The Forum will allow you to share your views, ask questions, give feedback about initiatives and find out more about the school.

Involvement in the Forum will be less formal and requires less commitment than being a governor, whilst still enabling you to make a real contribution to the school and network with others. It is anticipated that the Forum will meet on a half-termly basis, after school and will last for approximately 1 hour.

To register your interest, please contact Karen Greenhall by email at or by calling on 0114 2329010 ext 1022 by Friday 23 November 2018.

On Thursday, 22 November the Academy is holding its first enrichment day of this academic year. Staff have worked hard to secure a large number of outside agencies to deliver PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education), careers, finance and well-being sessions for your child.

Next Thursday, 22 November our annual Year 11 Post 16 Evening will be held from 3.30 pm – 5.30 pm in the Learning Resource Centre at school. This evening will provide both you and your child the opportunity to meet with staff regarding UCAS applications and seek careers advice. A number of post 16 and apprenticeship providers will be available to talk to including Longley Park College, Chapeltown Academy, Sheffield College, SWFC (Careers in Sport) and AMRC Training (engineering).

Please feel free to pop in at any time during the evening – you do not have to book a slot. If you require any further information, please contact Miss Bissett.

The Academy has decided to invest in Edulink, a user-friendly interface for staff, students and parents to be able to access information in one place. It is accessible on any device via app or web browser and will improve communication and offer significant resource savings to the Academy. Before we are able to launch the system, we need to ensure that parent/carer contact details are up to date as, once launched, you will receive log in details which will allow you to access information regarding your child.

An Edulink contact details form will be issued in the coming weeks for your completion. Further details on the launch will be communicated once this database exercise has been completed.

On Thursday 20 December, the last day of term, we will be having a Christmas Jumper Day in aid of Save the Children. Students do not have to wear their school uniform, but will be asked to wear a Christmas jumper or something along this theme. Please note that crop tops or mid-riff tee-shirts will not be allowed.

Yours faithfully

Andrew Kelly
