Parental Letter 4th January 2021

4th January 2021

Dear Parent/Carer

I hope this letter finds you having had a positive Christmas despite the many restrictions we all faced.

In light of the Government’s announcement on the afternoon of 30th December we communicated via text to all parents/carers that the staggered return of secondary school pupils in England was to be delayed by one week. Only vulnerable/critical worker children will return to Yewlands on Tuesday 5th January with all other students expected to access remote learning on Microsoft Teams from Tuesday 5th January as below:

- Period 1: 9.05am - 10.45am
- Period 2: 11.00am - 12.40pm
- Period 3: 1.10pm - 2.50pm

In today’s training day at Yewlands Academy the staff are planning for the increased remote learning offer for our students and planning, in partnership with Brigantia Learning Trust, on how the Academy will support mass testing for students and staff has commenced. Please note that further information will be shared with parents/carers on the Academy’s response to supporting mass testing in due course. Today’s training day is also an opportunity to support those families who do not have appropriate electronic devises to access remote learning though our laptop/tablet lending scheme. If you require support with using Microsoft Teams to access remote learning please contact

Further guidance regarding accessing remote learning, including a video guide, is available on the Academy website at

Year 11 students are to return to Yewlands on Monday 11th January but will attend the Academy the week commencing 4th January for any days they have the external vocational exams below:

- Thursday 7th January 2021 - Childcare Unit 1
- Friday 8th January 2021 - Travel and Tourism Unit 1
- Monday 11th January 2021 - Animal Care Unit 1
- Friday 5th February 2021 - Health and Social Care Component 3

Students in years 7-10 will return to the Academy on Monday 18th January and should access remote learning up until that point.

The information in this letter is accurate at the time of writing (9am!) but in this ever shifting Covid-19 landscape there may be further government announcements ahead. Rest assured any changes to the plans outlined above will be communicated to parents/carers ASAP and my priority will always be that our children are safe and that their learning is the best possible.

Finally, it is likely that I will have to review the Academy calendar as the delay to staggered starts will impact on some key dates; further information will be shared with you if this occurs.

Thank you for your flexibility in adapting to these changes; I very much appreciate your on-going support.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy 2021.
Take care.

Yours Sincerely

Mr A Kelly
